Before switching to this system we were using analog vtech cordless phones with a Cisco PAP2T analog adapter for about 6 years. Been using the Yealink YEA-W56P system for a couple of months and I'm very satisfied with it. The sound quality is good; our customers can hear us much better than they could on our vtech phones. The battery life has been excellent. We have a low call volume business and get about 2 weeks out of a fully charged handset. We're using the system with RingCentral. I found the review by Hesk really helpful, but I still had difficulty with the initial setup because the Yealink web interface uses the word 'Register Name' and Ringcentral calls that the 'Authorization ID'. Once I got the data into the correct fields it worked immediately.I don't like that it can only handle two calls at a time. If you put a call on hold to answer another call and want to go back to the first call to transfer it to another handset you can't. The only option is to connect the two calls, which in our case would be two customers so that isn't useful. It would be more efficient if it didn't see calling/transferring to another handset as a third call. The most difficult transitions from the analog system to this one is the transferring of calls. With the analog I could put a call on hold and any handset could pick it up. With this system you have to transfer the call to a handset before they can be on with the caller, then if they need to send the caller back to you they have to transfer it instead of just placing it on hold. It's been difficult for some people to learn how to work/understand the transfer vs hold so they end up just walking their handset back to me to finish the call.Overall I like the system. I would recommend it and I would purchase it again.Pro) It supports OpenVPN one of the few phones that do that. Cordless headset. Headset has access to lots of settings you could almost manage the device directly from there.Con) Status screen doesn't show sip connection or openvpn connection stations just network and headset status. Sip Status is very limited only seem to get 3 statuses (Disabled, Registered, Registered failed) to find out more you have to read the syslog and it is mashed with everything else that gets written to the system log. OpenVPN has zero status indicator you have to go into the syslog to figure anything out.Con) Headset uses 3.5 headphone jack instead of 2.5 that is common to cordless phones so you have to use an adapter to use headphons designed for standard cordless headphone sets or use ones designed for a cell phone (Harder to find and more expensive). Also the headphone jack is on the bottom of the unit right where it connects to the charger so you have to unplug the headphones before you can put the headset back onto the charge.Overall it is a good solution if you are looking for a sip client that supports OpenVPN but it is far from plug and play and the headphone jack just doesn't make since.PS. It does support using a user auth as well as cert the documentation is weak on the subject but it does work.Update: You will likely want to get a "3.5mm Male to 2.5mm Female Headphone Audio Adapter" so you can use it with standard 2.5 headset adaptors that most headsets sold on the mark use.I bought this to replace a Snom M3 system. The Yealink W56P has a very nice interface and unlike the Snom system the DECT base is POE so mounting is easier (only one wire to run). I have this connected into a Asterisk system and the audio is excellent. Both the handset earpiece and speaker phone- its no Polycom Soundstation in that regard but it does have more low end frequency presence than the M3 handsets. One thing the Snom did that the Yealink does not is show how many vmail messages I have that are NOT new. New messages are picked up just fine but after you have read them, you'll have to check your voicemail manually to know how many read message are there. That's a minor detail for me but others it might be important- it also might be a setting I missed for the Yealink but I don't think so.The other somewhat annoying thing is that while the keypad is backlit, the other 6 "control buttons" are not. One of the reasons for replacing the Snom system was the handsets were not backlit so for Yealink to not backlight all the keys, I'm taking a star. This is actually a very nice handset. However, they do not work with the AT&T Collaborate system unless you order direct from AT&T. I purchased three of these from Amazon and they will not register with the AT&T Collaborate system. Other W56Ps that were ordered direct from AT&T work fine. So, beware if you are planning on using these with AT&T Collaborate. Suggest you order direct from AT&T if this is the case, otherwise you will spend many hours trying to get the handset to register - and it simply will not.Very stylish (except for the cheap base station), and I got it to work with my obscure VOIP provider. Documentation is complete, but weak like many. Something like: Option X. To configure option X, click the option X button. No kidding and not useful especially when X is incomprehensible. For me, the deal-breaker was NO volume control. How you could have a phone that you cannot adjust the volume? In a VERY quiet room, it is barely loud enough. The speakerphone is not much louder than the handset's own volume. No way to adjust.I didn't get a chance to explore most of the features.A couple of other nits: One is that if you configure the time to be 12 hour AM/PM, it still shows on the screen saver in 24 hour time. Also, setting the display to always on doesn't work. It still turns off after a couple minutes. It would make a nice little desk clock. More nits is that it warns you NOT to use anything but the included 600ma USB charger, and the cord/charger is permanently attached to the handset charger. Why not make this compatible with the oodles of USB ports people already have around? It pretty. I installed this for a cust on a 3cx system. Thing is, its provisioning is iffy. Invariably seems to be displaying the incorrect time. Range is decent. Overall ok, not great. Only complaint was there is Zero Documentation. Excellent product so farGood product
